“The Fighting Irish” are arriving in Ireland today to open the 2023 season against rival Navy as part of the Aer Lingus College Football Series here in the Aviva Stadium , Dublin this Saturday.

Approximately 40,000 fans will arrive in Dublin over the next few days to cheer on their team. This is being hailed as the largest movement of Americans to Europe in peace time.

The city is bustling with preparations to give both teams and all their supporters the best Irish welcome.

The game promises to be a real clash of the titans and the Irish themselves will be out in force to welcome our friends from across the pond. To have such a high level American football game taking place here is such a novelty and the tickets have been snapped up by both visitors and Irish alike.

Dublin city’s College Green will be pedestrianised for 24 hours this weekend for the game and Dame Street, which is being renamed as Notre Dame Street for one weekend only, will be closed off to traffic from 8pm this Friday until 10pm on Saturday. The city centre area will be transformed into the home of Notre Dame tailgating action on game day (Saturday), which will include cheer squad performances .

The fact that Notre Dame have such deep rooted connections with us won’t go unnoticed and I feel like the crowd will be in fine voice on the day! We will however make sure that the Navy Midshipmen are given an equal share of the cheering and regardless of the winner we expect many sore heads and voices come Sunday morning!

It is a great honour to host this event here in Ireland and all of us here at www.connemaramarble.com are really looking forward to the weekend. So, I hope you all have your lucky pennies ready and may the luck of the Irish be with you all.

Sláinte,

Séan.
