Why did we chose Queen Maeve as our inspiration for this piece?
Maeve was the Queen of Connacht which is located in the west of Ireland and home to some of our islands most spectacular landscape and coastlines. The daughter of the High King of Ireland, Maeve was married to King Conchobar of Ulster. This was an arranged marriage which was usual within royalty however this was not a harmonious union.
During her reign Maeve’s power meant that a man couldn’t become king without her consent. At a time such as this you can see how she was known for her strength, wisdom and sometimes ruthlessness. She quickly became known as a woman who could rule, conquer and seduce and indeed was a trail blazer for women of her time!
Maeve will always hold a special place in Irish folklore as a mystical legend and inspiration for us all.
