Origins of the Claddagh :
The Claddagh ring dates back over 300 years. According to legend, the ring was first crafted by Richard Joyce, a Galway native who was captured by pirates and sold into slavery in North Africa. While enslaved, Joyce learned the art of jewelry making. When he was finally released, he returned to Galway and created the Claddagh ring as a token of enduring love for his sweetheart who had waited for him.
