“An Paidrin Beag” translates from the Irish language to “Little Rosary” . This is a single decade, handmade Irish rosary with Connemara marble beads. The piece dates back to the Penal times when it was forbidden to practice the Catholic faith in Ireland.
This suppression only served to increase the faith of the Irish people. Priests lived in hiding and Mass was celebrated on the open hillsides. People found more and more ways of continuing their devotions without being detected. “An Paidrin Beag” is one result of the people’s determined ingenuity. Hidden undetected in the folds of a skirt or trouser the little rosary made the perfect solution.
Crafted with genuine Connemara Marble hand lifted from our quarry in Lissoughter, Recess Co. Galway. We are proud to have been hand crafting rosary beads here in Ireland since 1945.
The rosary measures approx 10 inches long with a silver tone Celtic Cross crucifix along with metal links and keyring. Presented boxed with the “An Paidrin Beag” history card.

Our Irish Rosary is a very personal, single decade of the Rosary. The piece dates back to the Penal times when it was forbidden to practice the Catholic faith in Ireland.
“The company was the brainchild of my grandfather Thomas, when he and some of his oldest friends formed The Irish Consolidated Bead Company on the 28th November 1945 . The aim of that company was to produce Rosary beads for the Irish and overseas market.
It was based in a small workshop in Terenure Place, Dublin. Some of the earliest products produced were rosaries made of horn, wood and Connemara Marble. In 1947 he supplied rosaries to the world’s first duty-free shop in Shannon Airport.” Stephen Walsh.
Today we continue this family tradition of crafting rosary beads made with our natural gemstone, hand lifted from our quarry in Lissoughter, Recess Co. Galway.
