They are usually hawthorn, oak or ash trees. Many of which can be hundreds of years old. It is said that the fairies live in these trees! They are a meeting point for the “wee folk” – the leprechauns and fairies who live nearby.
A fairy tree will bring good luck and great care must be taken not to damage or destroy one of these magical trees. In fact it has been known for an entire road to be re routed to avoid disturbing one such tree and you will often see a perfectly tilled field with a lone tree in the center – a Tree of Life.
