This stunning necklace is inspired by a set of three 18th-century Venetian coloured and plain glass 24-light Chandeliers found in one of Ireland’s palladial homes Castletown House. Built in the 1720’s the house hosts a set of three Murano glass chandeliers which are unique in Ireland and rare even in Italy.
It is believed that Lady Louisa ordered them from Venice between 1775 and 1778 for the redecorated Long Gallery. Can you imagine the high ceilings, grand rooms, sweeping staircases, ballrooms filled with the most glamourous Lords and Ladies from Ireland’s high society – this is all reflected in this spectacular necklace.
The regal purple stone sits above our gemstone Connemara Marble surrounded by the shimmering cz stones. Presented on a 24″ chain and gift boxed this piece exudes the style and opulence of aristocratic Ireland.
Lady Louise wrote in a letter to her sister about how the Long Gallery under the magnificent Chandeliers also became a space for informal entertaining and was full of life and activity as the following excerpt from one of Louisa’s letters suggests.
