National Irish Coffee Day January 25th!

Tomorrow the 25th is National Irish Coffee Day here in Ireland. Back in the 1940’s a chef called Joe Sheridan worked in Rineanna Co. Clare which is now Shannon International airport.
In those days that is where the sea planes landed having crossed the Atlantic Ocean.
The passengers who would have been 8 or 10 hours on the plane having been buffeted about came into the restaurant after a bumpy journey. You can imagine how different the journey to Ireland would have been so long ago.
On arrival, tired and weary Joe would present them with a good strong coffee but with some Irish Whiskey, topped off with Irish cream added to revive them.
Clearly this went down a treat and so, all over the world the Irish Coffee is still a hit.
